Keeping Track of My Family

...or...trying not to wake them up in the middle of the night.

I come from a long line of travelers.  The story of my life and the life of my parents, grandparents, and siblings is long and complicated, but it can be summed up in two words... World Travelers.

With that in mind, right now I have family in two distinct countries and time zones besides my own.  My mom and little sister are in Australia (affectionately known as Oz) and my big sister and little brother are in India.

I have three clocks on my computer that keep track of what time it is in all three countries (I'm in the United States) but that was not enough.  Sometimes I'm just too darn lazy and end up calling one of these relatives at precisly the wrong time (usually between 2-5 am is the worst)

So I made this:

Three clocks with the three different times on them and labels of each country so I don't get them mixed up (I could just imagine showing up to a doctors appointment on Australia time!).  This way I can just look at one of my kitchen clocks and know what time it is for my family.  It also makes me feel closer to them (mushy...I know).

(I have a confession to make, I also think it is really cool to have multiple clocks with multiple time zones.  I always liked when they did that in hotels.)

There you have my little project for today.  A little reminder that somewhere on the other side of the world my family is just waking up, eating dinner or whatever.  It is nice to keep track of them.  (In fact it was after I set the Australia clock that I realized it was the perfect time to call my mum, it's working already!)

  3. Cute idea. I wish I would have thought of this when my son was living in England. We were always trying to figure out what time it was there!

    Warmly, Michelle
