Curtain Update (on the cheap)

I love the look of paterened crtains.  I know this is a very current look, and in a couple of years I won't want them anymore, but I love them right now.

If you have ever tried to get curtains for you house you know they are expensive.  A friend and I went looking everywhere.  Not only could we not find anything affordable, but we couldn't even find anything we liked.  So instead of trying to that again for me, I decided to just update the ones I already had.

In my college days I made curtains with a friend out of a whole bolt of fabric.  We added ribbon and made them fun.  Now, those curtains are not so excting anymore.  I dedided I could improve what I already had without too much extra expense.

So I bought some patterned drapery fabric I liked (at $20 a yard I only bought one and a half yards) and added it to the bottom of my curtains.  I then took off the outdated ribbon.

Before
(sorry about this shot, it is an old one)

After

As you can see I added some blue to the bottom.  Why blue?  Well because I'm going for a blue and yellow thing in the room.  With my Blue Dresser Extraordinaire you can see the colors are starting to come together.

I did do all three curtains, but the rest of the room was too messy to photograph (it happens).  Trust me they are all done.

What do you think?  What have you been doing in this economy to save some money?

  2. I too love patterned curtains and like you, I also think they are pretty darn expensive. I did score some patterned fabric at our local Old Time Pottery. It was 5yrds and I paid $15.00, and currently im working on curtains for my sons room but basically all I did was take some shower curtains that were on sale and turned them into curtains lol.

    Happy Monday! :)

  3. You did a good job on the curtains. I like the proportion of the band at the bottom, and the pattern too.

  4. It's good to see what a little piece of fabric can do. The curtain looks beautiful.
